Dr.Jim Provides Orthodontic Treatment for Kids and Adults Using Applications Such as Braces and Aligners (Invisalign)

When should my kid see the orthodontist?
Bring in your child at 7 or 8 years old to see if they need early intervention treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists suggests the age of 7 in the event they need something done early. Young children don't require much treatment. They may just need early guidance of teeth or an expander.

Does this mean my 7 year old needs orthodontist treatment?
No. Most children needing orthodontic care receive it during adolescence, but some are best treated before 10 years of age.

How long do children wear braces?
Typically 2 years.

How often does my child have to come in?
Braces are adjusted every 4-6 weeks and the appointments last for 5-10 minutes. We're very considerate to accommodate your schedule and there is usually no waiting time.

Do braces come in colors?
Yes. There is no cost to have colored braces and they can be changed each time, but the glue tastes gross. Nothing you would order in a restaurant!

What about cleaning around braces?
We provide our patients with a sonic-care toothbrush and teach them how to properly clean their braces.

Can I get braces as an adult? Are there age limitations?
There are no age limitations for braces, but they can take more time the longer you wait. As we age, our teeth move slower to align, but this is not a big issue.

Can I get clear braces? Do you have anything other than metal?
Yes. Clear braces are made of ceramic and won't discolor your teeth. They perform the same as metal braces. Note that clear braces are not invisalign.

Am I a candidate for invisalign instead of braces?
Many adults are able to wear invisalign, but to determine whether you are a candidate you need a consultation. General dental issues such as gum issues can affect orthodontic treatment. Your dental history is a very important component of planning your orthodontic treatment and Dr. Jim will work with your dentist for a successful outcome.
